QUINTESSENCE Intense

The original Quintessence was composed as a personal signature perfume in 2014 and was later launched as a product in 2016. Quintessence 21 followed and rapidly sold out.

The original concept, back then, was to attempt to modernise the structure of beloved classic soapy chypres by using purely natural whole-plant ingredients. I wanted to discover what lay beyond; to produce a softly billowing floral chypre, without any of the synthetic soapiness and laundry musk components of those spectacular scent ‘femme fatales’ of the past. The challenge was difficult, and although I loved Quintenssence, it never really quenched my endless hunger for the ‘luxe, because I simply adore every sexy, civetty soap-bomb scent of the last century.

This year, after much pondering, and endless curiosity, I decided to try adding some aldehydes. To the new formula, I’ve added 6 drops each of C12 and C16, which are isolates extracted from grapefruit and coconut.

Quintessence Intense is now a more mainstream, luxury department store version of its previously barefoot, hippie-chic self. Whereas Q21 was a bottle filled with golden sunlight, fresh air, rain-showers, gentle breezes and morning light, QIntense has evolved into an evening-wear parfum; a tender, romantic and more pearlescent blend of the ’21 formula.

Absolutely recognisable as Quintessence, the new release is more plush and velvetty, its sheen more lustrous. Modernity and tradition… hand-in glove.
